The name "Finally Equal" is taken from the first line of Kurt Vonnegut's short story Harrison Bergeron. Unable to choose between two disparate passions, I chose a title that reflects both.
|
| Our Passions |
|
- Promoting social justice and equality. The value of a person is not measured in gender, age, race, disability, looks, or sexual orientation.
|
|
- Combatting anti-intellectualism. We oppose the dumbing-down of our people, the negative cultural messages regarding intelligence, and misplaced national priorities regarding education.

Finally Equal
...some animals are more equal than others...

Hi there --
My name's Heath. At a public university, I teach mathematics to students who have finished high school during the era of "No Child Left Behind". I've seen first-hand the effect that politics has on education, and also the effect that education has on class.
I'm a believer in the power of education. I see deep connections between learning and empowerment, and between empowerment and equality. I wanted to write more about issues which I believe in, and quickly realized that my values about social justice and my values about education are inseparable.
Finally Equal addresses two complementary facets of the same progressive goal. Welcome. |
